Company overview

HSJ Corporation undertakes electrical and communication equipment operations for railways, large offices, and commercial buildings. In the area of electrical equipment, the company's work includes the installation of passenger displays and LED lighting on railway platforms, and in the area of communications equipment, it includes the construction of mobile phone base stations inside railway stations and in high-rise buildings. The company's strengths lie in its technical capabilities to support technological innovations such as 5G and in its ability to provide consistent services from planning and design to construction, operation, and maintenance in-house, despite having only 50 employees. Mr. Yang, from China, says: "I'm learning a lot from the wide range of work I'm doing. Now I'm happy to be able to acquire a variety of skills out in the actual field." President Sasaki confidently states: "Our company's greatest strength is the 'human power' of our employees." Since founding the company at the age of 23, Sasaki has gone through many trials & tribulations to arrive at this idea of "valuing a desire for social contribution, courtesy, and civility, and of constantly putting these into practice," which he says has remained unchanged to this day. In the telecommunications business, which is constantly undergoing technological innovation and development, the company has won a tremendous amount of trust from a wide range of customers, not only through its solid technical capabilities but also by holding these sentiments dear every day.

Work-life balance initiatives

The company's human resources development efforts are based on two pillars: improving technical skills and building 'human power.' To improve technical skills, the company has a system to promote the acquisition of qualifications required for electricians, special radio technicians, bookkeeping, and more. Mr. Tharu, who is from Nepal and who has been with the company for two years, breaks it down like this: "In addition to classroom study sessions, our superiors teach us the practical skills of the job. When I acquire qualifications, my superiors are happy for me, and I get a qualification allowance, so I'm happy." In addition, Mr. Subedi from Nepal, says: "My supervisor and seniors act as my teachers and hold study sessions for me to learn Japanese. They teach me things that are not taught at universities or language schools, and we all have fun learning together." On the other hand, in terms of "human development," the company thoroughly disseminates the basics of civility and business manner, such as for greetings, during the first month of training after joining the company. Mr. Son, who is from Korea, says with a smile: "They teach me the basics, including greetings, so I can work without worry. Even when I meet customers for the first time, I have been able to build good relationships." In addition, another unique point about the company is that it holds a calligraphy class as part of its spiritual training, and once a year the company holds a memorial climb of Mt. Osutaka for creating a venue for talking about "safety" as an entire company.

Human resource development initiatives

President Sasaki always says: "I want to be thanked by my future self." The company not only wants its employees to improve their work skills and become "construction professionals" that will be appreciated 10 or 20 years from now, but the company also wants them to cherish the present and live a fulfilling life. To achieve this, the company is working on two initiatives. The first is a monthly meeting between employees and their supervisors. In addition to evaluating work, they also discuss their own life plans and work styles. Director Watanabe says: "Recently, some employees have begun to choose staggered work hours and shorter work hours."
The second is to create an environment where people can work over the long term in good health and with peace of mind. The company also focuses on employee benefits such as medical insurance coverage and yoga classes, at the company's expense. Mr. Tamang, from Nepal, says: "When I personally injured my foot, the company paid for my surgery and rented me a dormitory next to the company. It was very helpful because it was difficult for me to commute to work, and their consideration made me very happy."
